Sieger BPWN Phase 2

Businessplan Wettbewerb Nordbayern 2023: The winners from phase 2

5 top startups honored

How can buildings be made fit for climate change with nanotechnology? How do open banking and data security go together? And how can e-bikes be better protected against theft? These and other questions are addressed by the five technology startups that we honored in Nuremberg in the second phase of the Northern Bavaria Business Plan Competition.

The awards ceremony was held at Müller Medien, where a total of ten nominated start-up teams presented themselves to an interested audience, including numerous investors and start-up experts. BayStartUP has been awarding prizes to the most innovative young start-ups from Franconia and the Upper Palatinate with the Business Plan Competition Northern Bavaria for 25 years.

1st place: AMPERIAL Windows Technologies GmbH

AMPERIAL is developing a retrofittable and dynamic heat protection for buildings that can be activated automatically or individually. Based on a new nanotechnology material, the smart film has been filed for patent and can reduce heating in the building by up to 7°C and electricity consumption by up to 26%. The transparent film mainly reflects the heat portion of sunlight without compromising the desired daylight penetration and can also be tinted for glare protection.

  • Team: Niall Killilea (Chemistry, Nanotechnology), Dr. Olaf Weiner (Molecular Biology), Katja Wadlinger (Advanced Materials and Processes), Matthias Trost (International Business).
  • Industry: ClimateTech, Nanotechnology
  • Origin: Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg | EXIST-Gründerstipendium

2nd place: YAXI GmbH

Yaxi revolutionizes Open Banking with Confidential Computing technology. The team is developing fully automated, trusted bank account access. The hardware-secured service is non-disclosable and delivers only the data requested. It allows non-regulated market participants consolidated access to regulated interfaces.

  • Team: Dr. Vincent Haupert, Christopher Schramm, Andreas Stührk, Van Tuan Vo
  • Industry: Open Banking
  • Origin: Neustadt an der Aisch | private

3rd place: 2Lock GmbH

2Lock develops and markets a contactless activatable wheel hub lock that can block both the rotation and removal of the front wheel of an e-bike. Due to its integration into the inner workings of the wheel hub, it is impossible to break open or remove the 2Lock hub lock without destroying the e-bike.

  • Team: Simon Bäuml, Benedikt Bäuml, Martin Scherl
  • Industry: E-bikes, locking systems
  • Origin: Regensburg | OTH Regensburg

4th place: droptical GmbH

droptical develops droplet generators for volumes of 0.2 - 25 nl, based on a novel and cost-effective operating principle. This volume range has so far been covered exclusively by high-priced systems. A quick-change concept for the nozzle unit ensures contamination-free application processes with a single actuator, without time-consuming rinsing.

  • Team: Jonas Heelein, Matthias Leininger, Daniel Föste
  • Sector: Pharmaceutical, MedTech, BioTech, Industry and Manufacturing
  • Origin: Nuremberg | private | EXIST-Gründerstipendium

5th place: RevoBITs

RevoBITs develops the first smart bio-printer to enable medical research and pharmaceutical industry to develop and reproducibly produce meaningful human tissue models. By combining multi-material printing, seamless temperature control, and sensor-based characterization methods, the printer provides the technological basis to replace animal testing in drug development and provide long-term tissue for transplantation medicine.

  • Team: Ruben G. Scheuring, Stefan Schrüfer, Janik Altenhöfer, Alexander Björk
  • Branch: Biotechnology
  • Origin: Erlangen | Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg

Tobias Bladowski, Head of the Business Plan Competition Northern Bavaria at BayStartUP:

Phase 2 of this year's competition has also shown that the start-up scene in Northern Bavaria is broadly positioned. The nominated teams address current topics ranging from environment to energy to life sciences, which demand sustainable solutions. And it is precisely these that the founders are creating with new processes, research approaches and cutting-edge technologies.

Other nominees

  • The Building Information Cloud from Neumarkt is a software-as-a-service solution that efficiently and automatically checks planning results in the construction industry.
  • Dr. QEN from Nuremberg is pursuing a holistic digitization of patient communication in medical facilities with the help of software and an end device in the practices.
  • MYTRA from Bayreuth is developing a novel measurement method for the detection of microparticles that enables the precise analysis of microplastics at the particle level in the flow.
  • paxray from Würzburg creates an objective decision-making basis for managing business processes through intelligent analysis of activity data.
  • ROBOTOP from Nuremberg enables providers of machines, systems and automation solutions to create personalized and interactive digital customer experiences.
